Terry Plater

A colorist by nature, I value the craft, the history, and the traditions of painting as well as the process. I primarily paint the figure, landscape, and interpretive portraiture in oils and pastels, in sizes ranging from 4” x 6” to 4’ x 6’.  For the most part self-trained, I have studied at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown Massachusetts, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, and the Art Students’ League in New York City; I count these schools as my institutional and artistic reference points, and as centerpieces of my artistic community. I maintain an interest in questions of equity and aesthetics and my work often seeks to understand the ways in which those two concepts can be reconciled.
